Archie: People Still Care

Is anyone else out there as amazed as I am at how much press Archie's marriage proposal to either Betty or Veronica is getting?

I'm guess I'm just surprised at just how remarkably cemented into our pop culture the Archie-verse still is after all these years -- seemingly without the kind of media saturation other comic book characters have enjoyed. I would gather most U.S. citizens know the basic set-up and characters of the Archie comics, right? At least as many people know, say, the whole basic Superman story. Isn't that really kind of amazing? Is it time to start talking about these characters as iconic...?
