I'm not saying that parents should drop their kids in the middle of nowhere when they need a few hours of peace and quiet, but this nine year old boy is a testament to the resiliency and resourcefulness of children. After being separated from his family while on a camping trip, Grayson Wynne managed to not only survive overnight in the wild, but also left visual clues and cues that enabled rescue workers to locate ad save him.
Even better, the kid credits "Man Vs. Wild," a show which features some dude who allows himself to be stranded in some remote part of the world for about a week, with the goal being to survive and find his way back to civilization. Apparently Grayson paid attention to what was on TV and used what he'd learned to communicate his location.
In a world where so many of us are afraid to even let our kids walk down the block to the corner store alone, this is a pretty sobering wake up call that hey, most kids aren't exactly delicate little flowers that need constant and smothering attention. I realize it's difficult - The Wife™ and I are already arguing about how old our daughter will have to be before we let her do things as simple as walk to the park alone - but man, nobody wants to be a helicopter parent, right?
Bonus "Future Badass of America" points: When rescued, Grayson's first words to his father were simply "Happy Father's Day."

Cool.
Maybe a wasted childhood of studying the A-Team will pay off when I get locked in a workshop, and i am able to burst out through a wall in a fully bullet proofed humvee having modified a lawn mower, weed whacker and power washer.
Maybe.

I saw this story. What an amazing tale. My girls are pretty independent teens. As an overprotective mom, I still want to hold their hands crossing the street. But, being 18 and 15, they won't allow that.
