Nerd Dads Review: iWriteWords

There is no doubt in my mind that iWriteWordsicon is easily one of, if not THE best, iPhone/iPod App available for kids. It's immensely important for kids not only to know their ABCs, but to also be able to write them and arrange them into words, of course, so any program that's able to combine learning these skills while being fun and engaging to a toddler is a winner. That said, when I originally bought this App for my daughter, I was struck by a few things:

Original settings = hard

Original settings = hard

  1. The interface is incredibly attractive as well as easy to figure out. In short, a perfect Mac App.

  2. As simple as it was to figure out, the controls were a little more unforgiving than I or The Kidâ„¢ would have liked, and it didn't offer the option to trace-n-learn lower case letters, a must for reading abilities to grow.

As luck would have it, both of these were addressed in the two updates that followed in quick succession after my initial purchase. First came the lower case letters option, which made it even more apparent that the controls needed to be a little more forgiving. If an adult like myself had trouble navigating the tight curves without going off the allowed path, then there was no way my toddler was going to be able to play for long without becoming frustrated.

Easy settings = much more forgiving

Easy settings = much more forgiving

The second update solved that completely, offering a much more forgiving Easy Mode. Though rather than Easy/Hard, I like to think of it as now we have the option of learning the basic mechanics of the letters now, with the ability to tighten up and work on our penmanship once she masters her mechanics a bit more. An added - and expected - side benefit is that she's more engaged in the gameplay, since her frustration level has dropped considerably. She still won't play for more than 3-4 words at a time before asking to switch to the Farting Piano, but hey, she is a three year old with all the attention span that that implies. The fact that she'll actively ask to "make words" when the iPod isn't even in sight is the perfect indication to me that iWriteWords is working and is worth well more than the mere 99 cents it'll drain from your back account.

    Hello,

    http://itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewSoftware?id=320174758&mt=8

I am the mom of a 4 years old little girl and I have an iphone ! I found out that in the appstore there were not enough good educational games for kids to developp their abilities and intelligence . So I decided to develop an application which will help and also give some fun for kids to play, to learn and write their alphabet and words.

This app "Write my name" is dedicated to all the parents who love to teach their child how to write their name or any words.
"Write my name" can help teach your kids to spell !

"Write my name" is an educational game which helps your children recognize the letters of their name and how to place them in order.

This game is very simple, you will like this easy app :
    - You or your child enter your child's name (or another word).
    - Letters appear on the screen randomly.
    - The kids have to place them in the correct order.

You can also play with any words.
This game will also help your kid to recognize words, boost his visual memory and constitute a pre-learning to reading skill.

Summer is here ! Make sure the kids get ready for the next school year :
"Write your name" helps toddlers, preschoolers, and kindergardens learn some basic words :
    - Preschoolers, and kindergartners will learn to write and play with their first-name.
    - Toddlers will learn and play with more difficult words, depending of their vocabulary.

This application is also a good way to help your kid to become familiar with your iphone and it is a good family game.

This is a great game for kids who get bored in the car, in the airplane, at the restaurant, or anywhere.

Kids between the ages 2 to 6 love to play with letters, words and their spellings.
Fun and educational ! Learn while having fun, it's easy!

    Thanxs,

    Julie
