Nerd News Round-Up: 5-14-2009

Batten down the hatches, kiddies - it's the return of the Nerd News Round-Up!

grayskull- As intrigued as we are by the prospect of a live-action follow up to the Dolph Lundgren He-Man movie of our youth (Fun Fact: it was actually based on a script about Jack Kirby's Fourth World!), the title just seems to have a little too much gravitas. "Grayskull" is simply far too epic a title for a movie about a toy line featuring characters named Moss Man, Stinkorr and, well, He-Man. At any rate, it's making news again due to the hiring of an unknown writer to revamp the script. If their concerned enough about the story to actually pay a second, though untested writer, maybe here's an outside hot at it being fun enough to watch. We'll let you know when it hits HBO.

- Following up a previous ND post, PBS Kids is set to launch the Henson Company's DINOSAUR TRAIN on Labor Day. Set those DVRs, people!

- Vertigo's version of the Human Target is coming (back) to TV, with Mark Valley in the titular role with Jackie Earle Haley and Chi McBride co-starring. No sign of Rick Springfield, but if the show does well, I'd be pleased if he didn't make some sort of cameo or bad guy appearance at some point.

- According to the Hollywood Reporter, there's another movie remake heading our way - FRIGHT NIGHT is in the works, though absolutely nobody is attached in any official capacity as of yet. We have no idea who should be cast in this thing, but Evil Ed had best keep his catchphrase intact.

- In comic book news, Kevin Smith is back with three new projects in the pipeline. He's got "Batman: The Widening Gyre," a 12-parter at DC lined up, plus a series set to run concurrently with it, featuring a character he'll be introducing in the "The Widening Gyre." He's also been named as the guy who's relaunching Green Hornet at Dynamite, basing a mini-series off of his one-time movie script for the character.
