On one hand, I'm genuinely happy that Weird Al has reinvigorated his career thanks to the internet. His website, Twitter feed and online video channels have not only reintroduced him to folks from my generation, but have opened him up to a brand new audience as well. It's amazing how well he's grabbed and run with the new technology, especially when so many of his peers have gathered up their skirts and run in the opposite direction.
On the other hand, this new single of his, "Skipper Dan," kind of makes me want to crawl back into bed for another hour - it's truly kind of depressing, but with a catchy beat!

Man, he's written some dark stuff before, usually one song per album, but that is the bleakest thing I think I've ever heard from him. I mean, it's not faux-disturbing like some of his early black humor songs were, but that just makes it grimmer.

The lo-tech Flash animation style makes it that much more of a buzzkill, too. I'm leaning towards thinking it's borderline brilliant, but I don't think I'll ever have it on constant iPod rotation.
