Thank god for this - John Boorman will be helming a new, non-musical, CGI adaptation of the L. Frank Baum classic, "The Wizard of Oz." I have two hopes for this, ultimately: That the movie is good and spawns a litany of decent sequels over the next decade or so and that, hopefully, I'll never have to sit in my living room and suffer through that godawful Judy Garland spectacle.
Director/writer/producer John Boorman is set to direct a CG-animated adaptation of L. Frank Baum's The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, per Variety. This is Boorman's first animated movie, and it is not a musical. Set for release in summer 2010, this movie features a screenplay by Boorman, Ron Mita and Him McClain (Robots). Produced the move are Laurent Rodon and Claude Gorvsky of France's Films Actions and Boorman's longtime producing partner Kieran Corrigan.

I know you're baiting me, but what the hell: you're wrong, "The Wizard of Oz" is a brilliant movie. This new one sounds like it could be great, too. Boorman is a vastly underrated director.

Ever since I was a kid I loathed that movie. Blech.
