Quick Observation From The Poop Deck

My daughter's nearly reached her first year, so she's going through a veritable slew of a smorgasbord of changes that we're trying (valiantly but not all that successfully) to deal with.

And amidst all the chattering and almost-walking and new foods and freaking out over not getting what she wants and sleeping problems and discipline and teeth and whatnot, one of the most disconcerting developments to me is the sudden shift in her poop from baby to, uh, not-so-baby.

Seriously, it really kind of jarred me the one day I opened up her diaper expecting the orange-y squirt of sour buttermilk, and was promptly greeted with the stinky squished remnants of a fully formed log and/or loaf. Even the smell kind of threw me -- how it had the more typical "poop" stank.

Writing about it here, it seems obvious that this shift is how it clicked in my mind that she's really getting older. On her way to becoming a little kid. Kind of weird, but anyway, that's what's going on.
