Sometimes I think if you boiled down being a nerd to its very essence, that essence would be that you have a lot of useless pop culture detritus bouncing around your brain at pretty much all times. For example, often when I (or The Old Lady for that matter) hear the word "essence," I can't help but think of Skeksis sucking the soul out of Podlings and other living things.
What does all this mean, you're asking? Not really anything. Except that when I caught the mostly-disappointing Terminator Salvation the other day, I couldn't help but think of the intro to the Robocop vs. Terminator game on the Sega Genesis, which has what is probably the most epic and confusing expository opening screen of all time.
