Since when is the response to a day at the beach covered with tar balls and straight up oil-coated waves rolling in not to turn around and head the other way, but to pack some Goo-Off or whatever to get the resulting mess off your skin after building sand castles? Yes, the beach was open, yes it should have been shut down, but really, the people sunning themselves on it should all be committed and/or looked at for child endangerment.

Subject: Actual message on School Answering Machine in Australia

This is the message that the Maroochydore High School, Queensland, Australia, staff voted unanimously to record on their school telephone answering machine. This is the actual answering machine message for the school.

This came about because they implemented a policy requiring students and parents to be responsible for their children's absences and missing homework.

The school and teachers are being sued by parents who want their children's failing grades changed to passing grades - even though those children were absent 15-30 times during the semester and did not complete enough school work to pass their classes.

Really, people? This is what so many were all worked up about? This is a GREAT speech, no politicking, no "indoctrinations" going on. Just a simple, inspiring Stay In School and You Can Succeed speech. Here's just a snippet, in case you were one of those folks that refuse to watch and have forbidden your kids from seeing and hearing it for themselves.

Now I know it’s not always easy to do well in school. I know a lot of you have challenges in your lives right now that can make it hard to focus on your schoolwork.

I get it. I know what that’s like. My father left my family when I was two years old, and I was raised by a single mother who struggled at times to pay the bills and wasn’t always able to give us things the other kids had. There were times when I missed having a father in my life. There were times when I was lonely and felt like I didn’t fit in.

So I wasn’t always as focused as I should have been. I did some things I’m not proud of, and got in more trouble than I should have. And my life could have easily taken a turn for the worse.

But I was fortunate. I got a lot of second chances and had the opportunity to go to college, and law school, and follow my dreams. My wife, our First Lady Michelle Obama, has a similar story. Neither of her parents had gone to college, and they didn’t have much. But they worked hard, and she worked hard, so that she could go to the best schools in this country.

Some of you might not have those advantages. Maybe you don’t have adults in your life who give you the support that you need. Maybe someone in your family has lost their job, and there’s not enough money to go around. Maybe you live in a neighborhood where you don’t feel safe, or have friends who are pressuring you to do things you know aren’t right.

But at the end of the day, the circumstances of your life – what you look like, where you come from, how much money you have, what you’ve got going on at home – that’s no excuse for neglecting your homework or having a bad attitude. That’s no excuse for talking back to your teacher, or cutting class, or dropping out of school. That’s no excuse for not trying.

Where you are right now doesn’t have to determine where you’ll end up. No one’s written your destiny for you. Here in America, you write your own destiny. You make your own future.

The rest is here.

Recently, an overly sensitive mother in Omaha, Nebraska has been raising a stink over a Spider-Man collection her 6 year old son brought home from school. She claimed that the comic contained dirty images that are inappropriate for elementary school children and has since been railing to have it removed from the school library. Lost in this kerfluffle was any actual information about the book itself, which collection it might be and what, exactly, was so offensive about it.

Enter ICv2, who has put the pieces together in order for those of us without so much time on our hands to scratch our heads and say "Really...?"

The book in question, which can be seen in the KETV report, but is not identified in the newscast, is J. Michael Straczynski’s Amazing Spider-Man Vol.2: Revelations, which was published in 2002 and rated “PG, Ages 12+” by Marvel. During its report KETV showed panels featuring John Romita Jr.’s art depicting Mary Jane in a bikini and a short skirt (the graphic novel includes Amazing Spider-Man #39, the adventurous “silent” issue).

The image in question appears to be the one to the right, featuring MJ in a bikini, striking a pose not dissimilar to those one can see on billboards or end cap displays all over the country. Even better, rather than simply inform the school librarian that they didn't pay attention and let a book with a 12+ rating go home with a 6 year old kid, the mom decided that it would make more sense to pitch a fit to the local media. Frankly, the fact that the school board is even taking the time to deal with this on any level other that to apologize and remind the librarians to look before they check out, is a shame. If I was a local taxpayer, I'd be pretty annoyed with Hyper-Sensitive Mom right now, and hopefully some level headed local parents will speak up and ask her to kindly sit down and behave. In fact, at least one internet poster claims to know her directly, and if accurate, she sounds like a real winner.

I must say, unfortunetly, I know of this woman. As much as I believe in a mother's thoughts and rights, I know for a fact this woman is going straight for publicity. She has tried being a model, an actor, a mom. Come on--she's nuts. And 'myworld' is right. Though I do understand why a mother would frown on these books, they are nothing worse than you would see in a basic cartoon--obviously the library goes through an eliminating phase--they are kids--comics have been around for years, Physha--back off.

What the hell are these people doing saddling their kids with these names? Assuming that mom and dad aren't racists, there's no escaping the fact that they're pretty much selfish idiots using their children to make political statements at the expense of any chance of growing up normally.

A three-year-old boy called Adolf Hitler Campbell has been refused a birthday cake with his name on it by a New Jersey supermarket.

Heath Campbell, 35, and his wife, Deborah, 25, say they are upset at the decision made by their local ShopRite not to write "Happy Birthday Adolf Hitler" across the cake, and that people needed to move forward.

Campbell said he named his son after Adolf Hitler because "no one else in the world would have that name".

"They need to accept a name. A name's a name. The kid isn't going to grow up and do what [Hitler] did," he said.

Not to be defeated, the family ended up getting their cake decorated at a Walmart in Pennsylvania.

The problem is likely to be one they face again – their younger children are JoyceLynn Aryan Nation Campbell, who is nearly two, and Honszlynn Hinler Jeannie Campbell, named after the SS head Heinrich Himmler. Honszlynn turns one in April.
