Dinosaur Train: The Book(s)

We've trumpeted the conceptual awesomeness behind the Jim Henson Company's cutesy-poo Dinosaur Train show.
Well, apparently the show's been successful to some degree, cuz now there are going to be a series of books starting in Fall 2010.
One can only hope this leads to other amazing Nerd Dad-approved edutainment mash-ups like "Shark Astronauts" or "Vikings [...]

A Fistful Of Dirt Each Day Keeps The Doctor Away

While the findings of this article come as little surprise to me - we've been letting The Kid™ get dirty pretty much since since she was old enough to crawl, and she's rarely had so much as a fever - the details about why children who are allowed to play in the dirt seem to [...]

We Love Science Dept: You Were Right When You Said Lasers Were Rad

Have scientists inadvertently discovered that the Philosopher's Stone is actually shooting a laser at something? Maybe... Anyway, something super awesome with lasers happened, and Nerd Dads was there to find the article to link to for you to read.

I promptly forgot about them, rather than dwell on my internal melancholy, but Mike signed up for the email list and [...]

Useless In SoCal - Firefly Attractors

This is a testament to the importance of Knowing Your Market lest you stock totally useless product for your store's locale. I took the following photo of some Firefly Attractors while shopping yesterday in the local Target, located in Rosemead, CA.

Mind you, as far as I know, there hasn't been a single firefly in the [...]

Chew Gum, Improve Your Grades

According to a new study commissioned by Wrigley, students who chew gum during the course of their studies, in school and out, may just show an improvement in their grades. The theory certainly seems somewhat sound - kids chewing gum are less likely to be distracted by thoughts of food and have fewer cravings for [...]

Biodegradeable Chewing Gum

The fact that this gum is biodegradable is cool and all, but I like the fact that it flat out disintegrates and dissolves in water after a few weeks. Makes the inevitable problem of gum getting ground into clothes/carpet/toys a much smaller one to deal with.
Chicza Rainforest Gum is manufactured in Mexico by Consorcio Chiclero [...]
