So, we're at school yesterday, and a big old hawk flies by and takes up residence in the trees on the school grounds. It flies from tree to tree, settling in, then taking off again. Eventually, it takes out a pigeon from somewhere, either the sky or the roof or something, and lights down at the top of one tree in particular. That's when the fun begins.
"Daddy, what's the bird doing?"
"That's a hawk, honey (note - it may not be a hawk. It could be an eagle or a falcon for all I know. I'm not a bird dude.). He's eating lunch."
"What's he eating?"
"Lunch, honey."
"What's he eating for lunch?"
(Honest truth or facetious answer...honest truth...facetious answer...)
"He's eating a pigeon, honey."
"Oh! ...what's the pigeon doing?"
"It's being the hawk's lunch, sweetie."
"Oh! Ha ha ha ha!!"
At this point, she wandered off to try to climb the tree with her friends, because they all wanted to see the bird. Shortly thereafter, we hustled the entire class inside as the air was truly becoming thick with plucked pigeon feathers as the hawk continued to go to town on it's prey, and we didn't want anyone grabbing a bloody tuft to play with, chomp down on or otherwise utilize in a not-so-healthy fashion.
There's a couple more pics after the jump. They aren't exactly bloody or anything, but if you're weak od stomach, you may not want to see them. THOU HAST BEEN WARNED!!
