SO, early last week, I was checking in with my Facebook account and I came across this status update from the Watchmen account. Bear in mind, I'd assumed that this was pretty much a dead account, what with the movie being out of theaters and all, but with the DVD release imminent, it made sense that it would be popping back to life again. The claim it was making, however, seemed a bit grandiose and suspect.
I wasn't alone in my incredulity. Almost all of the comments were wondering the same thing - WTF was Warner Bros. talking about? Then I came across this news story, with the following info:
The rollout will culminate with a special screening July 25 at Comic-Con that is designed to act as a BD-Live event, a Blu-ray feature that will allow any viewer in North America to watch the movie simultaneously as the audience at Comic-Con, see and hear Snyder comment on the movie, and even ask questions. The screening will then be archived and will be able to be accessed for future viewings.
Ah, I see - I'm guessing that this is going to be the first time something like this has been done, thus placing Watchmen into the record books as having the biggest single audience for a non-televised movie, or some such thing. Pretty sneaky, kind of cool, and if I had a Blu-Ray player and wasn't going to be working at CCI for CBR, I'd probably be nerding out at home along with who knows how many other people.
